What's in a Name?

      When you hear a certain name it brings certain memories to mind. When our daughter was trying to decide what to name her first girl lots of unusual names came up. There was Phoebe, Daphne, Sophie, Mercedes, and many more. The name she settled on was Phoebe. All I could think of was a snobbish, ditzy, coed. It sounded like Muffy or Buffy to me. I thought it belonged in a dumb blonde joke. Names can emote good memories or bad. Because of memories they can change what a name may bring to mind. Now when I think of Phoebe, it's of a little girl full of sweetness, hugs and kisses. She likes to cuddle and dress up. A girl wearing an apron that's to big, doing Grandma's dirty dishes.

      Baby books have lists and lists of names and their meaning. They say Phoebe means brilliant and shining. She is all of that and more. Her face glows when she is happy. This little girl is smart and insightful for a child her age. Her Mother says she is an instigator. Direct that in the right way and she'll accomplish all she tries to do.

      There's a lot in a name. When I hear the name of a loved one it wells up love and memories of days gone by, but also of what the future holds for them. There's one name that if all my loved ones believe in it I'll never have to worry about their future again. This name will see them through eternity. I looked up this name to see what meaning they gave it. I was surprised they even had it listed. It read "God will help". The name I'm speaking of is "Jesus".

      Jesus, oh what a beautiful name. Sometimes all I have to do is hear his name and it brings tears to my eyes. Tears of sadness for what he suffered for me. Tears of joy for the gift God gave us. Tears of gratitude for what he willingly sacrificed for me(himself). Tears of love for all he's done for me when I didn't even know.
